What is dyslexia?

Dyslexia refers to many symptoms that result in difficulties with language skills such as reading, spelling, writing, and pronouncing words.  Is your child bright, but feels defeated because he/she can't read like his/her classmates?  His/her brain may work in unique ways that require a unique style of instruction.

What kind of specialized reading help do you offer?

The Wilson Reading System (WRS) is an intensive intervention program based on reading research and Orton-Gillingham teachings & principles that focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension instruction.  Teaching strategies to decode/read and to encode/spell provide the learner with useful  tools for life-long learning.  WRS is accredited by the International Dyslexia Association.

What should I look for in a dyslexia tutor?

  • A teacher with specialized skills and certification to teach students language skills necessary for them to learn

  • An instructor who is trained in Orton-Gillingham principles and endorsed by the International Dyslexia Association

  • Structured literacy learning that includes visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile learning

  • Dedicated to teaching with fidelity to equip the learner with life-long learning skills

A Parent's Perspective...

After struggling with reading at school and concerns from our son's teacher, we had Lisa tutor our son throughout the summer. When reading with him after these sessions, both my husband and I noticed significant improvement in his reading, without him having to sound out each word. The awesome benefits of the tutoring were confirmed after receiving our son's standardized testing and seeing huge improvements in his scores from the previous spring, putting him at the same level as his classmates and above the national average. We are so happy with the help he received and know it will be a benefit to him in all academic areas.     Trista
